The objective of the course is to provide for students’ knowledge and skills needed for conducting academic research and successfully preparing the master's thesis.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- teab, tunneb ja saab aru magistritöö olemusest;
- oskab retsenseerida lõputööd;
- saab aru enda ja juhendaja rollist lõputöö kirjutamise protsessis;
- oskab koostada ja kaasüliõpilaste ees kaitsta oma magistritöö kavandit (sisaldades lõputöö teemat, juhendaja nime, sissejuhatust, märksõnu, probleemi (RP) (või keskset uurimisküsimust (CRQ)), teooriat, meetodit ja analüüsi, oodatavaid lõpptulemusi, kasutatud allikate loetelu), mis vastab esitatud sisulistele ja vormistuslikele nõuetele;
- saab aru, mida, kuidas ja miks ta midagi teeb ja mõistab, kuidas arendada lõputöö kavandist magistritöö.

After completing this course the student:
- knows and understands the substance of a master’s thesis;
- is able to review a thesis;
- understands her/his and the supervisor's role in the writing process;
- is able to prepare the extended master thesis outline (incl. topic of the thesis, supervisor’s name, introduction, keywords, statement of the research problem (RP) (or alternatively the central research question (CRQ)), theory, method and analysis, expected results, list of references.) and defend it in front of other students. The outline meets the respective requirements;
- understands what, how and why she/he researches in the master's thesis, and undestands how to proceed.

Magistriseminar koosneb loengutest, konsultatsioonidest ja seminaridest. Loengud käsitllevad magistritöö organiseerimist, sissejuhatust uuringufilosoofiasse, kvantitatiivseid ja kvalitatiivseid uurimistöö meetodeid. Seminarides harjutatakse magistritöö kavandi koostamist.
brief description of the course in English
The course consists of lectures, consultations and workshops. The lectures cover the organization of the master's thesis, introduction to research philosophy, quantitative and qualitative research methods. In workshops the thesis outline writing is practised.

Kursuse hindeks on „arvestatud” või „mittearvestatud”. Magistriseminar on „arvestatud” kui magistritöö kavand vastab nii sisult kui ka vormilt kehtestatud nõuetele s.o selle alusel saab koostada nõuete kohase magistritöö.

The grade for the subject course is ‘pass’ or ‘fail’. In order to pass the extended master thesis outline must meet form and content, as well as the requirements. On the basis of the outline the student should be able to prepare her/his master thesis.
